On my morning walks, I say good morning to everything. Not out loud, just in my head. The birds, the trees, the clouds, the moon if I can still see it, the flowers. They all get a good morning.
With each good morning, I can feel the love in my heart start to light up. It’s genuine love, and it makes me feel like the whole day is going to be the best day ever. When I see someone, they get a friendly good morning too. I’m smiling. I feel lighter.
This is one of my methods for changing the momentum of my thoughts. It’s simple, which helps when I’ve gotten caught up in something that feels anything but simple.
When wanting turns into worrying
When something matters deeply, it can be easy to start to feel desperate. You want the relationship, the opportunity, the change you’ve been imagining. You’re trying to stay focused on what you want, but you’re also very aware that it hasn’t happened yet.
For me, manifestation is a spiritual practice of staying grounded, focusing on what I want, and cultivating love and peace. That’s what I’m reaching for when I talk about high-vibe energy.
But life keeps life-ing.
Someone says something hurtful. Something you were counting on falls through. You wake up discouraged, or you have a frustrating afternoon. Along with whatever happened, you’re now nervous about what your reaction means for the thing you want to manifest.
“Am I focusing too much on the lack? Is feeling this way getting in the way of what I want?”
You catch a worried thought and immediately worry about having it. You tell yourself to stay positive, then get frustrated because you’re still upset. That’s a lot of pressure to put on yourself while you’re already having a hard moment. A practice you turn to for hope can start to feel like one more thing you have to get right.
Give your thoughts somewhere to go
There’s room in a spiritual practice for being human. Hurt deserves care. Disappointment can take time to move through. You can acknowledge what’s happening and choose where you’d like to place your attention next.
My approach is to notice when I’m not emotionally aligned with what I want to manifest, then change the momentum of my thoughts.
The word momentum matters here. Telling yourself to feel peaceful while you’re wound up can become another frustrating instruction. It helps to have somewhere to begin, something you can respond to with a feeling that comes naturally.
When you’ve wanted something for a long time, you can spend a lot of your day checking on its absence. Has anything changed? Is it getting closer? You start looking at everyday life for evidence of whether things are working out.
On my walks, there’s something beautiful right in front of me to love. For those moments, my attention is with the world around me. I’m in the present, enjoying something that’s already here.
Your way into that feeling could be different. A song you love. A few minutes with your dog. Calling the friend who always makes you laugh. What feels good to you is personal, and it can be wonderfully ordinary.
Choose something you already love and give it a little of your attention. Let yourself enjoy it without checking whether you’ve shifted enough or wondering what it means for your manifestation. If you feel a little lighter, enjoy that. If you’re still upset, you can give yourself more time and care.
You can want something deeply and give yourself breathing room along the way. There’s a whole day here to experience while that part of your life is still unfolding.
What’s here for you to love today?
